baby boy quilt

there has been a little deviation from the WIP list around here lately :)




This little quilt was made with one FQ for the center {all I did was remove the selvedge and square up the sides} and bordered with another FQ.  I was able to get all the binding I needed from a third FQ, and then I needed a bit more than a FQ for the backing.

I am rounding it off to 1 yard of stash used for my tally {which will make it to my sidebar one of these days}

As you can see, the quilting is nothing fancy.

this quilt measures 26" x 22", and will be donated to Maine Medical Center's pediatric ICU via Knight's Quilt Shoppe

WIP Wednesday update

what I've been working on lately - a fabric basket made from a pile of scraps that was sitting on my desk and distracting me, and a baby quilt that I am almost done sewing the binding down on.  neither are on my FAL list.  oops :)

Baby Hungary caterpillar quilt

I finished the baby Hungary Caterpillar quilt this week!  This is a quilt that came together so quickly, then sat and sat and sat, waiting for that last little bit of stitching to finish it.  Please tell me I'm not the only one who does that ;)



A shot of the back - I love this stripe print that shows all the foods the caterpillar ate in the book :)







this quilt measures 24 inches square, and is destined for the Maine Medical Center PICU via Knight's Quilt Shoppe.

ladybug picnic

I had a paper bag.  I kept all my quilting patterns in it.



It finally got too ripped up to use anymore.



So I sewed up a more durable replacement :)





Everything I used I had already in my stash, except the buttons.  They were so thick, I couldn't fit the bag, handle, and button all under the presser foot of my machine, so I had to sew them on by hand. 

Now all my patterns are neatly tucked away in their new picnic-y ladybug tote, perfect for summertime  :)  

{this project also represents more than a yard of long-time stash getting moved out and put to use - that makes me super happy!}

time to zip it up....

You may have noticed the Triple Zip Along happening around blogland awhile ago.  Well, I made one too {whoo hoo!} and snuck it into the flicker group just in the nick of time.  I've been running all around with it because I love it so, but somehow I neglected to show all of you here.  I think it is about time I made my little zip pouch respectable and blogged about it, don't you?

 



Even though my zippers are boring white, I kind of like them  {i had to shop local, and we have poor color selection}

AMH Innocent Crush, inside & out :)  Oh, and I found the perfect lilac thread for top stitching in my thread bin!  little things like that make me so happy :)

Hmmmm, looks like my pouch is getting a little sassy and showing off her backside ;)

Salt Air & tulips in the kitchen

My Salt Air table runner has been done for awhile now, but it has taken me almost two weeks to get a decent picture of it.



I was grocery shopping when I realised what the problem was; the runner needed a vase of tulips to go with it :)

I made my table runner as part of curves class taught by Rachel of Stitched in Color.  This was my first try at improv curves, and I loved it!  I will definately be doing more of this someday!

For fabric, I used a charm pack of Salt Air by Moda that I won in a giveaway from A Girl in Paradise.  The batting I pieced together from leftover scraps.  And the backing and binding I also pulled out of my stash.  I had this marbled tan-ish fabric I bought for a specific reason, but I can't remember what it was.  Obviously, I never ended up using it for that.  The right side of the fabric was too dark so I turned it over and used the backside, which was the perfect creamy off-white.  I was so happy to be able to put this project together entirely from my stash!

I FMQed this quilt using Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters.  I really love this book!

UR Priceless! coin purse blog hop

 

You know the bad part about being on the last day of a blog hop?  So many fabulous coin purses have already been shown off by very talented folks, and now I have to show my little purse. {gulp}

 

 

 

The fabrics I used were all DS for Joanns - the orange dot that I'm using for the photo background is the lining of the purse.  I do love these three fabrics together, but let's put the purse on something else so it stands out better, ok?

Oh, look at that - she's fallen over with her fanny up in the air

 

 

It's ok little coin purse, just dust yourself off and whistle a little tune - I bet no one even noticed :)

 

 

I bought the frame at Quilttaffy

I do love my little coin purse! I'm very happy with the fabrics & it was fun to sew :)

However, I managed to make a mess of sewing the purse into the frame, which is why I'm not showing a photo of the inside.  I will go back and fix it soon, but she will have to wait until after the craft shows this weekend.   Just to be clear, I take full responsibility for the mistake I made, the pattern is just dandy :)

I was putting away all my fabric like I said I would, when I came across some Hungry Catapiller scraps.   They said they were tired of sitting around unused, they wanted to be made into something.  Now.

I used a tutorial from Pink Penguin.  The fabrics are scraps from a quilt I designed and made for my son. 

I think this bucket is so. stinkin'. cute. - if I do say so myself {grin}

Ok, back to what I'm supposed to be doing...

tote your fuit & veggies

A few days ago I gave you a little peak at what I was making with some fruit & veggie fabrics.  {go here to check it out if you would like to} Well, this is what I was making:

I made this tote with scraps from a quilt I haven't finished yet.  Has anyone else out there finished a project from the scraps of another project that isn't finished yet? 

Would you like to see the quilting close up?

What's that? You want to see the lining? Sure:

Everything I used for this tote was scrap, including the batting.  I love using up my scraps  :)
Once I was all done, you know, when it it too late to fix a mistake, I noticed this:

I tried so hard to avoid two pieces of the same fabric landing side by side. I took pics of my layout and checked them with every seam I sewed.  I'm a bit disgusted with myself, I mean, it shouldn't be that hard to keep just 36 rectangles in the right spot, right?

Oh well, I hope the bag's new owner doesn't mind.

PS - This is the project with the deadline of bright & early tomorrow morning. I made it with a few hours to spare, yay!

It's finished! But what is it?

I finished my 'plus' quilt, and I couldn't be more thrilled with how it has come out :)

I was intending to use this quilt to try a new quilting technique, but the previous day I quilted a lap quilt that didn't go as well as I'd hoped, so I decided to keep it simple this time.  Oh well, it was a new-to-me pattern anyway.

I didn't mark any lines, just stitched diagonally through the squares.  I can't wait to put this in the washer & dryer and see how it wrinkles up :)  Oh, and i measured it more precisely, and it is 29" x 31", just incase you were wondering.

Maybe it's a wallhanging for my sewing room, and not a doll quilt afterall :)

It found its way into this:

which I quilted in the ditch with some great melon colored thread I had on hand.

Then, when I was almost done ditch stitchin', my machine ate it.  {sigh}
At least the fabric is undamaged - I was able to cut my little quilt sandwhich free without snipping the backing fabric, which is a white-on-white star print from my stash that had slim odds of ever getting used.  Since this sandwhich back won't be seen, I thought this would be a good time to use it up. 

Can anyone guess what I am making?
I used most of my charm pack for the top, and the only additional fabric is the backing.
