Rachel has done a beautiful thing. You see, realizing that we all have unloved fabrics cluttering up our sewing spaces she has started a purge-a-long to put those unloved fabrics to use, thereby giving us all permission to start new projects. I don't know about you, but I definitely need a good enabler in my life ;)<br />
<br />
Here are my purge projects, in no particular order:<br />
<br />
1. these formerly abandoned HSTs are nearly a quilt top now {just need borders}<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14747379373" title="HSTs find newlife by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="HSTs find newlife" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3909/14747379373_95b1f54fec_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
2. this is a giant star that I made with some seriously unloved fabrics that were given to me.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14747378853" title="giant star of unloved fabrics by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="giant star of unloved fabrics" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3846/14747378853_c0840fa824_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
3. these unloveds are going to be a donation quilt - I have a few more squares to cut before I start sewing. but I'm not telling what I'm making just yet :)<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14540867628" title="unloved fabrics cut in squares by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="unloved fabrics cut in squares" height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2929/14540867628_0e1c6cc4cc_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
4. A charm pack of Amy Butler Dots has been hanging around in my stash for too long unused. I'm not sure what this project is destined for yet, but the top is nearly done. More details to follow :) {yes, I'm being secretive today}<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14727212902" title="sewing with Amy Butler dots charm pack by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="sewing with Amy Butler dots charm pack" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5561/14727212902_d65be08f4d_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
5. I keep the trimmings from quilt backs after quilting. this pile has been hanging around waiting for me to separate the fabric from the batting for awhile. because the batting strips were so skinny, I tossed them. I have more small bits of batting than I can reasonably expect to use anytime soon. {Those will need to be sorted out later}<br />
<br />
before...<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14704496806" title="trimmings of batting & fabric by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="trimmings of batting & fabric" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5567/14704496806_39b23cc1c6_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
after...<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14727494325" title="going coastal scraps by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="going coastal scraps" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3858/14727494325_41ec804aa3_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
that's it for me for now. what about you, are you purging?<br />
<br />
<br />Allisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733260699809919293noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-47980396164900053.post-43387172863749366462014-07-14T16:12:00.002-04:002014-07-14T16:12:50.382-04:00Q3 Finish-a-long Goalsmy camera jumped ship and left me high and dry with no way to take any lovely new pictures for you, so I'm going to do my best to put together my list with old photos. It shouldn't be too hard since most of these things have been 'in progress' for a ridiculous amount of time :)<br />
<br />
1. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/8214654113" title="a future quilt by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="a future quilt" height="480" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8202/8214654113_ab1a063130_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
the penguin quilt is actually a finished top now, and I have the backing. Just need to baste, quilt, and bind.<br />
<br />
2. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14281502582" title="1/3 of 144 cracker quilt blocks by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="1/3 of 144 cracker quilt blocks" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5530/14281502582_c42b2e7f09_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I'm putting the cracker quilt on here just for fun. It is highly unlikely that I'll completely finish it this quarter, but maybe the top will get done.<br />
<br />
3. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14208313747" title="dragonfly sashiko by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="dragonfly sashiko" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5555/14208313747_95162a58d1_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Dragonfly Sashiko needs to become a finished something-or-other<br />
<br />
4. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14192629172" title="binding, waiting by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="binding, waiting" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7393/14192629172_aaba0386d5_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
i'm still hand stitching the binding on my going coastal quilt, and it really needs to be done. No, it doesn't take this long to hand stitch binding, I've just been lazy ;)<br />
<br />
5. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13858875954" title="mondo-bag-to-be with Japanese fabric by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="mondo-bag-to-be with Japanese fabric" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3667/13858875954_1005c4175c_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I need to make a Mondo bag<br />
<br />
6. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/12709476545" title="split rail fence by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="split rail fence" height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2863/12709476545_8e5c2632dc_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
this top still needs to be quilted<br />
<br />
7. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/9288354540" title="HST block by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="HST block" height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2850/9288354540_a5d0c11090_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
these HSTs are much farther along than this now, but still need some work. almost to the baste and quilt stage, though.<br />
<br />
That is all I'm going to put on my list. I have other things in the works, but since my camera has been missing I don't have pictures of any of my recent work. {Grrr...}<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After procrastinating finishing the hem for so long it's silly, my patchwork skirt is now done! :)</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
is hanging a skirt in a tree sillier than<a href="http://patchworkdream.blogspot.com/2014/06/lets-play-pretend.html" target="_blank"> picnicing pillows</a>? I think perhaps it is. and you know what? I like taking silly pictures :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
I bought the fabric from Joanns probably three years ago, it was a pre-made patchwork so making my skirt was actually very simple. The pattern was<a href="http://www.annamariahorner.com/Flirting.the.Issue.pdf" target="_blank"> Flirting the Issue </a>by AMH. Another yard and a half out of my stash! :)<br />

<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14498750506" title="backyard pillow picnic by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="backyard pillow picnic" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3900/14498750506_0aeab8c1b2_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
why are my pillows picnining in the backyard with new pillowcases on you ask? <br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14335407697" title="pillowcase picnic by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="pillowcase picnic" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3897/14335407697_1b99a9082a_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
because the lighting is better outside, of course :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14521848055" title="pillowcase threesome by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="pillowcase threesome" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3877/14521848055_985348ed35_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
of all the silly things I've done to get decent lighting in photos, this feels like the silliest. <br />
<br />
what about you? what odd or silly things have you done for blog photos?<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14541968703" title="pillowcase stack by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="pillowcase stack" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3865/14541968703_cfab83c542_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
these three pillowcases, <a href="http://patchworkdream.blogspot.com/2013/11/it-isnt-easy-to-get-interesting-picture.html" target="_blank">plus one other I made awhile ago</a>, make four {aren't I good at math?} to be donated to charity. Now I just need to find a place to donate them to :)<br />

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14378926266" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="rotary cutting slip by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="rotary cutting slip" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2938/14378926266_39f1b04468_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
ok, so I was working on my cracker quilt. I have eleventy-billion five inch squares that need to be cut on the diagonal so the resulting triangles can be sewn to the rectangle units I've already pieced. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Everything was going fine, until my rotary cutter got a mind of it's own and veered off away from the ruler.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had precisely enough blue plaid five inch squares to make my quilt. The fabric is an OOP '30s print from Connecting Threads. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The panic hit a split second before the little voice in my head <i>you're always saying it's ok to substitute something from your stash. no need to madly search out a source of a fabric match. introducing another fabric to the quilt just adds interest.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14422215933" title="rotary cutting mishap by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="rotary cutting mishap" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5500/14422215933_1742b4491f_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
so I went and had a look through my stash. and found a half yard of the blue plaid I forgot I had.<br />
<br />
tomorrow I will cut a five inch square of fabric from my stash. no panicked searching for more of an OOP fabric. and all is right in my little quilty world again :)Allisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733260699809919293noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-47980396164900053.post-30086304334026413662014-06-10T21:13:00.002-04:002014-06-11T12:29:17.519-04:00dragonfly sashiko progress<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14208313747" title="dragonfly sashiko by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="dragonfly sashiko" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5555/14208313747_95162a58d1_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
thanks to the many doctor appointments and sports events I have been to for my boys, I am nearly done stitching the dragonfly sashiko. {I take it with me most places we go}<br />
<br />
soon I will need to have a rummage through my stash and decide what this will be sewn up into.<br />

They each chose a historical figure, dressed as that person, and gave a short speech about their life. 18 kids or so were in the living timeline. Oldest to youngest, my boys were Thomas Edison, Harry Houdini, and General Stonewall Jackson.<br />
<br />
Since Edison and Houdini mostly wore dark suits, those costumes were easily taken care of. <br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14138956047" title="thrifted coat by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="thrifted coat" height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2928/14138956047_fd830daea8_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
For the General's uniform, I thrifted a grey men's suit coat to upcycle. I shortened the sleeves and body. The coat had gold buttons on it to begin with, so I removed them and saved them to use later.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14215298653" title="yellow felt for a general's colar by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="yellow felt for a general's colar" height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2895/14215298653_5b5c6e2ebe_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I cut an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of craft felt in half and sew the pieces end to end. Then I sewed the yellow felt to the underside of the up-turned color. Once I rearranged the gold buttons the coat looked like this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14129379357" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="stonewall jackson coat by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="stonewall jackson coat" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2904/14129379357_455cb9a2fd_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Four of the buttons fell off during rehearsal, so I sewed on replacements, and another fell off during the performance. I guess I need more work on my button sewing technique :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14292759006" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="stonewall coat two by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="stonewall coat two" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3755/14292759006_02f1d2e957_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I loved this opportunity to sew for one of my sons :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
However, this project has made it painfully obvious that outside of piecing a quilt, my sewing skills are all but nonexistent. I would like to change that, so I can sew more things for my family. Perhaps even conquer my fear of sewing clothing :)</div>

<br />
Hello! today I thought I'd share some pictures I took while wandering around Portsmouth, NH. I think it was the first time I had ever taken time with my boys to just look at the tugboats & other sights to be seen there. <br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13855676193" title="wall art by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="wall art" height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2805/13855676193_6293ec14dd_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
isn't this mural fantastic?<br />
<br />
we made a stop at the <a href="http://www.portsmouthfabric.com/" target="_blank">Portsmouth Fabric Co</a>., of course ;)<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13855975434" title="my kids want to eat here :) by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="my kids want to eat here :)" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3779/13855975434_b83a38370d_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I've never eaten here, but my kids love the name of this restaurant :)<br />
<br />
I have eaten at <a href="http://www.riverhouse53bow.com/" target="_blank">The River House</a> - if you are ever in Portsmouth you<b> must </b>try their seafood chowder. Best. Chowder. Ever.<br />
<br />
I'm linking this random tour of Portsmouth, NH up with<a href="http://www.liveacolorfullife.net/2014/05/really-random-thursday-52914.html" target="_blank"> Cindy</a> - what randomness do you have to share?Allisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733260699809919293noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-47980396164900053.post-53317018933061662562014-05-27T11:32:00.000-04:002014-05-28T13:50:10.575-04:00wearing quilts and other goings on...hello! today is crazy busy, so I'm just going to show you a couple of quick pics of what I'm working on right now. more info will follow as I {hopefully} find time to sew & make a bit of progress. ok, here we go!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14283051054" title="patchwork skirt in progress by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="patchwork skirt in progress" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3738/14283051054_19e7bf0718_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I'm making a patchwork skirt, because who doesn't want to wear a quilt? {and it's plaid!!}<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14281502582" title="1/3 of 144 cracker quilt blocks by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="1/3 of 144 cracker quilt blocks" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5530/14281502582_c42b2e7f09_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
these are 144 cracker blocks 1/3 of the way done. I still need to cut 288 squares on the diagonal and sew 4 of the resulting triangles to each block {that's 576 triangles for all you math geeks out there :) } I started these at the quilt retreat I went to awhile ago. <br />
<br />
FYI, I'm super sizing <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/10/ritzy-cracker-quilt.html" target="_blank">this tutorial from the Moda Bake Shop</a>.<br />
<br />
Ok, I've got a full day of appointments, track & field, and two baseball games to get on with. but first, I'm linking up with <a href="http://ihavetosay.typepad.com/randi/2014/05/show-and-tell-tuesday.html" target="_blank">Sew & Tell Tuesday </a>,<a href="https://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://conniekresin.com%22%20target=%22_blank%22%3E%3Cimg%20border=%220%22%20src=%22http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0YnOLSauANI/UtSJB_Q4CcI/AAAAAAAAOTs/oPkPRfd3LxQ/s1600/linkyparty125.png%22%20width=%22125%22%20border=%220%22%20/%3E%3C/a%3E" target="_blank"> Freemotion by the River</a>, and <a href="http://quiltstory.blogspot.com/2014/05/fabric-tuesday-is-on.html" target="_blank">Quilt Story</a>. have a great day!<br />

<br />
I have lots of stitchy things to catch you up on, like the quilt retreat I went on {yay!!!} but took almost no pictures at. I was a girl on a mission with piles and piles of fabric to sew into quilt tops.<br />
<br />
want to see the first one I finished at quilt retreat?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14008496889" title="blue ball jar with daffodils & quilt top by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="blue ball jar with daffodils & quilt top" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7394/14008496889_e5598f6b1e_z.jpg" width="480" /></a>
</div>
<br />
I picked some Timber & Leaf up at my LQS before the retreat along with some other FQs I can't identify. The background is a fantastic print from Indian Summer. I knew right away I would be making <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2011/08/giant-vintage-star-quilt-tutorial.html" target="_blank">a giant star</a> with them. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/14195073124" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="quilt reflecting in pond by Allison, on Flickr"><img alt="quilt reflecting in pond" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7433/14195073124_ccdeca1327_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
the retreat was beside a beautiful lake, and I thought it would be the perfect place to take pictures, but the clouds, rain, and wind weren't cooperating...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<center>
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
I guess I'll be over here in my own little corner working on my WIPs, since I missed the Q2 FAL linky party. And it is a long WIP list, too. Hopefully failing to link up on time is not indicative of how much success I will have working my way through my WIPs :)</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
1. 36 patch blocks - I need to make two more blocks before assembling the top</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13855635903/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
2. turn these vintage pillowcases into laundry bags - I want to make at least three of these, maybe five<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13855971964/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
3. this fabric needs to be sewn into pj pants. I wanted these to be done for last Christmas, which obviously didn't happen. so now I'm getting a head start for next Christmas, right? :)<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13855973334/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
4. a Mondo bag from these Japanese fabric scraps<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13858875954/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
5. Cracker quilt from these 30's fabrics<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13858532253/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
6. & 7. are both in the next photo - the blue / green fabric stack in the back is for a 'brick' quilt, and the rest of the fabrics are for the Lucky Stars QAL that I obviously didn't get very far with :)<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13855599765/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
8, 9, and 10 are in the next photo. they are a new Sashiko project, a Vintage Modern jelly roll that had started to be one thing, but then I ripped out the stitches and I'm planning something different now, and two FQs and a zipper to make a boxy pouch with.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13855638123/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
and there are some 'roll over' projects from last quarter:<br />
<br />
11. Going Coastal zig zags - I don't have any new photos, but the top is done and my Mom is getting ready to quilt it on the longarm for me. The back makes me very happy; I pieced it from my collection of lobster fabrics.<br />
<br />
12. split rail fence - still needs to be basted and quilted<br />
<br />
13. making pillowcases - ironic because I have some pillowcases I am turning into something else :)<br />
<br />
14. penguin quilt - I can't look at another piece of fabric without my son commenting that I still haven't finished his penguin quilt, or it seems like I forgot all about his penguin quilt. Oh, the Mama guilt ;)<br />
<br />
I guess that is enough for now - after all, we all know I am not going to finish all 14 WIPs on this list, during baseball season no less, but this way I'm covered no matter what I feel like working on when I do get the chance to sew :)<br />

<br />
there has been a little deviation from the WIP list around here lately :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13723447713/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
This little quilt was made with one FQ for the center {all I did was remove the selvedge and square up the sides} and bordered with another FQ. I was able to get all the binding I needed from a third FQ, and then I needed a bit more than a FQ for the backing. <br />
<br />
I am rounding it off to 1 yard of stash used for my tally {which will make it to my sidebar one of these days}<br />
<br />
As you can see, the quilting is nothing fancy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13723449113/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />

<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13476295964/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
I quilted and bound my Madrona Road quilt finally, and I LOVE it! soon I should have proper pics, the weatherman is promising sunshine!<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13432572934/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
I finished a fabric basket for a friend, and mostly made a baby quilt - it has been sitting around waiting for the last 18 inches or so of the binding to get sewn down. I know none of you procrastinate over little things like that, right? ;) hehe<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="640" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/13298214314/in/photostream/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="480"></iframe><br /></div>
<br />
another quilty finish - a star quilt :)<br />
<br />
and, even though the progress isn't picture worthy yet, i did a ton of work on my Going Coastal Crab quilt. seriously, how can you put hours into a quilt and not have any significantly picture worthy progress to show? it is taking much longer than expected to join the rows together. {there are 26 rows, and some of them are massive. I think I accidentally made this thing queen sized.} for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, here is the last picture I took of it laid out, rows not joined together -<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/8778444783/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />

My Madrona Road quilt is quilted, bound, washed & crinkled - and I love it!<br />
<br />
but this one photo is all you get today, just enough to prove I finished it :)<br />
<br />
I botched my best chance at a decent photo shoot for this quilt {left my camera at home} so I'm just posting this one photo so I can do a little link-partying while I wait for the rain to stop over here.<br />
<br />
have a great weekend!<br />

I can't believe I nearly forgot to share this quilt with you, because I love it so much! It was actually done two weeks ago.</div>

these fabrics had been sitting in my stash for a long time, and they are just too pretty for that. It makes me so happy that they have been turned into a quilt for snuggling!<br />

<br />
after washing and drying, this quilt is super soft! I'm not sure if it is because of the less dense quilting than my normal, but I love the feel of it! so much so, I'm almost sad to give it away,<a href="http://www.mainequiltshop.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=139" target="_blank"> {here}</a>.<br />

once again, Son #1 did a great job as quilt holder :)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I made the star 44" square, but it needed some added length to make it the size the hospital wants, so I added a piano key boarder to the top and bottom.<br />
this makes approx. another 6 1/2 yards of stash used! :)<br />

<br />
it is really hard to keep your quilt blog updated if you loose your camera and can't share any new pictures. yeah, so I thought I'd take a break from tearing this place apart looking for it and share some old photos. <br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/7475343950/player/49941e98ba" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
last October-ish I finished a quilt which never got an appearance on the blog, not even any WIP photos. I used the fabrics you see above, and <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2011/08/giant-vintage-star-quilt-tutorial.html" target="_blank">this star tutorial</a> by In Color Order, and made a quilt to donate to our church's youth group funraiser.<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/10046096864/player/bc7a1ec0e3" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
I backed it with a pink floral vintage sheet. you'll need to use your imagination, because these are the only two photos I could find of this quilt.<br />
<br />
It really looked like I was going to run out of time to finish, but I had made a commitment to donate a quilt even if it was only to myself, so I stayed up until 4:15 am hand stitching the binding and tossed it in the wash. <br />
<br />
After a quick nap, I dashed out the door and delivered the quilt on time, but I didn't have time for photos. oh well, I'm told the quilt has found a loving home with it's new owner, and it raised a good amount of money for the youth group, and that is what matters most. although I do wish I had a good picture.<br />
<br />
now, back to looking for that camera....Allisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733260699809919293noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-47980396164900053.post-21193317205214868952014-03-07T19:45:00.000-05:002014-03-07T19:45:08.247-05:00round 2<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ok, February's lovely year of finishes goal wasn't a win, but I'm back for round 2.</div>

My goal for March is finishing my Going Coastal quilt top. See you at the end of month link up :)Allisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733260699809919293noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-47980396164900053.post-76082392027989361212014-03-01T10:46:00.000-05:002014-03-01T10:46:14.488-05:00February in reviewlet's see, I celebrated groundhog's day with a <a href="http://patchworkdream.blogspot.com/2014/02/happy-groundhog-day.html" target="_blank">stuffed groundhog & shadow</a><br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/12277780063/player/2981f0797f" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
binding <a href="http://patchworkdream.blogspot.com/2014/02/a-swearing-baby-blanket.html" target="_blank">this blankie </a>inspired lots of swearing:<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/12527390553/player/8e997c724c" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
I finished the top of a <a href="http://patchworkdream.blogspot.com/2014/02/split-rial-fence-top-finish.html" target="_blank">split rial fence quilt top</a> in more earthy colors:<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/12709476545/player/8e5c2632dc" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
and I was forced to admit defeat on my February lovely year of finishes goal :(<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/12856254055/player/9f990e18fe" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
I was all set up with Netflix and thread to stitch late into the night to get the binding finished, but I've been sick for weeks and by 10:00 pm local time, I had to admit I just didn't have it in me for a late night of stitching, even though the linky still had 5 hours before closing. <br />
<br />
so, that was my February - what about yours?<br />

<br />
So, I broke out my can of 505 basting spray and got to work. Just not on my <a href="http://patchworkdream.blogspot.com/2014/02/split-rial-fence-top-finish.html" target="_blank">split rail fence</a> quilt :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="480" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dreaminginpatchwork/12773977214/player/c3eab26011" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe><br />
<br />
don't worry, I haven't abandoned my split rail to the WIP pile, but I had to switch out because my Madrona Road patchwork is supposed to be my February finish for the lovely year of finishes. I've got three days to quilt and bind {by hand}. Think I can make it? :)<br />
